Summer Kayak Guide
How about a job that doesn't feel like a job? Join us at Pictured Rocks Kayaking for a fun summer in the sun. We are looking for summer guides and deckhands that will work in an environment that is like no other. We have 2 weeks of extensive training starting in June for all positions. You will train in fundamentals and safety of kayak guiding along with the United States Coast Guard regulations regarding drills, such as man-overboard, fire, and evacuation emergency regarding boat safety.
Your days will be spent on the water guiding customers through the National Lakeshore. Other duties might include deck handing, yard work, and cleaning of kayak equipment. Daily transportation from Marquette to job site will be available for the Summer of 2025. Gratuities can also make your day! Cha-Ching!
- Setup for daily tour operations: Gear prep and coordination with guests and office staff/captain
- Greet guests with introduction and hand out gear
- Provide Safety demonstration which include proper gear fitting and adjustment of equipment
- Loading and unloading customers in and out of their kayaks
- Provide detailed narration along the guided tour
- Guide a group of 6 kayaks (12 people) along the Pictured Rocks Shoreline
- Facts about Lake Superior, rock formations, and the area
- Some basic boat cleaning and maintenance before and after tour
- Cleaning equipment
- Understand, practice, and know Water and safety drills - this includes deck and kayak
- Talk to customers on the boat ride to and from the rocks.
- Make restaurant suggestions
- Things to do in the area
REQUIREMENTS
- First Aid CPR Certification - we will train/pay on our scheduled date if not certified
- Pass Drug test and on random test thru the season
- Must be willing to work long days
- Must have positive attitude and strong work ethic
- Must be able to swim and carry 50 lbs
- Must have patience and humor and the ability to be social with guests
