Description:

The Elementary Tutor supports the academic, social, and emotional development of elementary school students by providing targeted small-group and one-on-one instructional support aligned with classroom curriculum and district standards. This role serves as an academic intervention resource, reinforcing foundational skills in literacy, mathematics, and positive learning behaviors to improve student engagement and outcomes. Elementary Tutors work collaboratively with teachers, school administrators, and program leadership to strengthen early academic achievement and promote long-term student success.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Provide small-group and one-on-one academic support in reading, writing, and mathematics
  • Support students by reinforcing foundational academic skills and helping close learning gaps
  • Build positive, supportive relationships with students to improve engagement, confidence, and learning behaviors
  • Collaborate with teachers and program coordinators to align tutoring activities with curriculum goals and individual student needs
  • Track student attendance and academic progress, maintaining accurate and timely documentation
  • Communicate student outcomes and observations to instructional staff
  • Participate in consistent academic intervention and mentoring efforts that support early academic achievement and long-term student success

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have accepted a Federal Work-Study award for the current academic year
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly explain concepts to young learners
  • Ability to build positive, respectful relationships with students, teachers, and families
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to track student progress and maintain accurate records
  • Patience, empathy, and a commitment to supporting diverse learners
  • Ability to follow structured lesson plans and adapt instruction to meet individual student needs
  • Basic reading and math proficiency

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Comfort supporting English Language Learners and students with mild learning differences
  • Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and a commitment to continuous improvement in youth
    development practice
