Investigator 1

This is a full-time, classified position. The employee receives
and responds to information and other computer-generated
reports regarding overpayment/over issuances in public
assistance programs. Responsible for conducting field and
in-office investigations regarding fraud and/or non-fraud
overpayments and underpayments.

Major Worker Characteristics:
Knowledge of accounting; agency policy and procedures. Skill in word
processing; equipment operation. Ability to define problems,
collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; comprehend and
record figures accurately; add, subtract, multiply and divide
whole numbers; calculate fractions, decimals and percentages; use
statistical analysis; copy records precisely without error; read
simple sentences with common vocabulary; comprehend simple sentences
with common vocabulary; copy material accurately and
recognize grammatical and spelling errors; complete routine forms; maintain
accurate records; prepare meaningful, concise and
accurate reports; use proper research methods in gathering data; arrange
items in numerical or alphabetical order; sort items into
categories according to established methods; code items from one symbolic
form to another; work alone on most tasks; answer routine
telephone inquiries from public; handle sensitive inquiries from contacts
with officials and general public.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

• Associates degree in behavioral science, social science, law
enforcement or related field or any equivalent combination of
education, training, and experience which provides the requisite
knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job
• Experience in gathering data, compiling information and preparing
reports.
• Must be proficient in use of Word and must be able to quickly
learn other programs as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in behavioral science, social science, criminal
justice or related field or any equivalent combination of education,
training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge,
skills, and abilities for this job
• Familiarity with one or more public assistance programs (food
assistance, cash assistance, Medicaid).
• Two years' experience in a human services related field
