HNTB's industry-leading aviation planning team is seeking intern Aviation Planners for Summer 2026 in our Oakland, CA office.
The successful candidate has a strong interest in aviation, solid critical thinking skills, and a desire to grow in this exciting industry. Candidates will have access to excellent mentorship and professional development opportunities.
Relocation and housing are not provided for these positions.
What You’ll Do:
- Assists project team members with various support tasks.
- Conducts basic research and data collection.
- Maintains records, collections and files related to specific projects.
- Assist in the development of graphics, presentation materials and reports.
- Performs other duties assigned.
What You’ll Need:
- Enrolled in a related undergraduate or graduate program
What You'll Bring:
- Drive to synthesize spatial, data, and policy information into legible graphics, compelling data, clear written reports, and snazzy presentations to support HNTB's wide-ranging airside, landside and terminal planning projects coast-to-coast.
- Motivation to ask questions, flag challenges, and anticipate solutions.
- A collaborative mindset, engaging with a diverse team to reach a stronger solution together
- Support project managers and deputy project managers to deliver extraordinary value for our clients.
- Attend meetings and document decisions.
What We Prefer:
- Rising upperclassman Undergraduate or Graduate level degree. Common disciplines include Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Engineering, Planning, Urban Design. We welcome non-traditional majors with technical prowess.
- Strong interest or prior experience in the aviation industry.
- Competency in design softwares such as: AutoCAD, Rhinoceros, Revit, Adobe Illustrator and/or InDesign.
- Ability to work with complex or large data sets using analysis programs like Mircrosoft Excel or Python.

The approximate pay range for the California San Francisco Bay Area is $26.34 - $39.50. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
