Youth Director (Part-time)

Woodland Presbyterian Church, Memphis, TN 

Statement of Purpose

This key role focuses on ministering to the students within Woodland Presbyterian Church through meaningful relationships, biblical teaching, and loving service. This interim youth ministry position will require about ten to twelve hours per week for preparation, teaching, volunteer recruitment, activities, and relationship building. This person will report directly to the Senior Pastor.

Role Responsibilities

Teaching

• Teach students in youth Sunday School and Sunday evening Bible studies and find replacement teachers when unavailable
• Plan and implement youth confirmation class annually
• Select curricula for teaching spaces

Student Engagement

• Represent youth ministry to the rest of the church, engaging new families and intentionally building relationships with students
• Develop and maintain strong relationship with Woodland Presbyterian School, strengthening the on-ramp from school to church for those interested

Staff Responsibilities

• Participate in weekly staff meetings and engage in developmental opportunities
• Accurately maintain youth ministry budget
• Actively participate in church-wide activities and relationships

Equipping Expectations

• Recruit and train volunteers to work with students, maintaining safety protocols and a relational discipleship mind-set
• Provide opportunities and training for building relationships intergenerationally between students and adult church members
• Select and train student mentors for confirmation class

Skills & Accountability

• Mature and growing relationship with Jesus Christ and commitment to continued development
• Experience in youth, children’s, or family ministry (volunteer or professional)
• Able to relate to students and adults
• Directly accountable to Senior Pastor and church session
