Senior or Graduate Student Internship Electronics

Who We Are:

SwRI is a nonprofit R&D organization that is seeking a skilled team member to work on the design, development, fabrication, assembly, maintenance, and repair of electronic, electrical/mechanical, and software related project work for government and commercial clients.

Objectives of this Role:

  • Internships provide an opportunity for the intern and the technical division to determine if there can be a good fit for both sides long-term.
  • Expose engineering students to the product lifecycle from concept to final product.
  • Research and development to design, fabricate, assemble, and test custom electronics.
  • Work with small teams to develop embedded systems for projects.
  • Year-round or Summer 2026 internship position.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

  • Learn CAD software for schematic capture, printed circuit board design. Learn Simulation software for circuit design.
  • Support technical staff by developing software modules and/or troubleshooting hardware using DMM, oscilloscope.
  • Investigate and report on FPGA and/or microprocessor platforms, embedded software development tools, and other technologies as assigned.
  • Work independently or with small teams developing hardware for client applications.

Requirements:

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering with an expected graduation date no later than Summer 2027.
  • 0 years: Coursework or prior internship experience in C/C++, analog circuit fundamentals, microprocessor architecture, embedded software development platforms.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.

Special Requirements:

Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen.
