The Child Development Center at Texas State is looking for some great student workers to serve in the following capacities:

Teaching Assistants. Teaching assistants in early childcare play a crucial role in supporting the lead teachers and creating a positive learning environment for young children. The primary goal is to support the lead teacher in providing a nurturing and enriching environment for the children’s growth and development. 

Job Duties Include:

·        Assist Lead Teacher: Support the lead teacher in implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities for the children.

·        Supervision: Supervising children to ensure their safety at all times, both indoors and outdoors. 

·        Daily Care Tasks: Assist with tasks such as diaper changing, feeding, dressing, washing hands, toileting, and other basic care needs for the children.

·        Classroom Setup and Cleanup: Help prepare the classroom for activities, keeping it organized, and cleaning up after various activities.

·        Group Activities: Assist Lead Teachers in facilitating group activities and ensuring all children are engaged and participating. Ex: Small group activities, centers, table activities, art, etc.

·        Classroom Management: Implement developmentally appropriate classroom management techniques.

·        Communication with Parents: Maintain open and clear communication with parents/guardians about their child’s daily activities and any concerns that may arise.

·        Safety and Health: Promote health and safety practices at all times.

·        Assisting Children with Atypical Needs: Provide support and accommodations for children with atypical needs, in collaboration with the lead teacher and any specialists involved. 

·        Substitute Teaching: Teaching Assistants will temporarily lead classrooms in the absence of the main teacher.

·        Record Keeping: Assist teachers in maintaining records-CACFP Meal Count Forms, documenting diaper changes, meals, nap times, and activities in HiMama. Staff must complete Incident Reports for illnesses, injuries, and incidents as needed.

·        Professional Development: Participate in training and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge related to early childhood education. In addition, Teaching Assistants must complete all Student Worker trainings required by the University.

We seek applicants with some experience (paid or voluntary) with young children under 5 years old. We seek those enrolled in a course of study related to child development, education, families, etc. We will consider candidates outside this course of study if they have previous childcare experience. All part-time staff must be available to work at least 15-20 hours per week with consistent blocks of time available during our hours of operation (7:30am-5:30pm).

Kitchen Aide. Applicants must be available to work 8-2pm. Kitchen or nutrition experience is a plus. This person would help prepare snacks and breakfast for CDC children. The CDC will provide effective PPE for all employees.

Employee Evaluation Process:  Employees have frequent check-ins with administrative staff and will be evaluated on performance each semester by their direct supervisor.  

Payrate Determination:  The Teaching Assistant position starts at $10/hour. Increases in pay are determined by job performance and time employed with the CDC. 

Due to the population served, all teaching assistants must pass a background check.
