Metrics Development Analyst

GRA, Incorporated—one of the nation's most experienced and well-respected aviation consulting firms—seeks a qualified candidate to provide data extraction, validation, processing, and analysis to develop air traffic performance metrics and tools in support of our Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) customer. Successful candidate must pass background investigation to work on-site as a contractor for the FAA in the Washington DC metro area, though the majority of the work will be performed remotely.

 

Illustrative Tasks:

  • Data Procurement
    • Perform ETL with large aviation data sets from different sources, using Python or R to transform raw data into analytically ready data as part of a centralized data warehouse 
    • Ensure the data source is reliable and behaves as expected through testing and validation
  • Data Analysis
    • Implement error checking, data quality assessments, and related activities
    • Provide analytical support in assessing the performance of the national airspace
  • Metrics and Tool Development
    • Develop, maintain, and manage dashboards and reporting applications using R Shiny, Python, or Tableau to measure the performance of the National Airspace System
    • Work with end-users to define goals and requirements for new and existing dashboards or reporting tools
  • Communication
    • Present results to internal FAA management team and to other FAA and industry groups
    • Develop data visualizations, documentation, user guides, presentations, or written reports

Position Requirements:

  • Master’s degree plus one year of relevant work experience OR a Bachelor’s degree plus three years of relevant work experience; degree must be in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience in ETL techniques
  • Demonstrated experience in programming with languages such as R or Python
  • Demonstrated experience in interfacing with a database using SQL or PL/SQL
  • Proficiency with standard Microsoft analytical software such as Excel or Access
  • Ability to assess and verify operational data and communicate analytical results
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, including experience in writing documentation
  • Team player who works effectively in a collaborative environment

Position Preferences:

  • Oracle or PostgreSQL database experience 
  • Demonstrated experience with data visualization software and toolkits 
  • Experience with version control using Git 
  • Experience with the Atlassian product suite or other similar collaboration tools 
  • Work or academic experience in aviation
