Summary
As a Camp Counselor at Stepping Stones, Inc., you will play a vital role in creating a safe and engaging environment for children with developmental disabilities. This position is essential in facilitating recreational activities that promote personal growth, social skills, and enjoyment during camp sessions.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and engage campers in various recreational activities and programs.
- Implement behavior management strategies to ensure a positive camp experience.
- Assist campers with daily living skills and provide support as needed.
- Encourage participation in sports, arts, and educational activities.
- Foster a nurturing environment that promotes social interaction and personal development.
- Communicate effectively with parents and staff regarding camper progress and needs.
Requirements
- Experience in childcare or working with children with developmental disabilities is preferred.
- Able to successfully complete paid in person training week of May 26th-29th
- Strong understanding of childhood development principles.
- Ability to manage behaviors effectively and compassionately.
- Creative skills in tutoring, sports coaching, or theater are a plus.
- Excellent communication skills to interact with campers, families, and team members.

ABOUT OUR TEAM
We are proud of our long history of providing valuable, field work experience for college students pursuing future careers in Special Education, Social Work, Therapeutic Recreation, Nursing and other related majors. Others come to us without prior experience in the field — and that’s okay!
Our camp community welcomes staff from all backgrounds and our training program provides staff with all the tools and information they need to perform they’re role well.
WHEN YOU’LL BE WORKING:
- Day Camp runs weekdays from June 1, 2026 through July 31, 2026
- Shift time is approximately 8:15 am – 4 pm
FIELD WORK EXPERIENCE YOU WILL GAIN:
- Planning and executing adaptive recreation activities for ages 5-18 with disabilities
- All Summer Camp Counselors will have exposure to IEPs
- Documentation for the State of Ohio and local officials
- Leading small groups of campers while navigating through a daily activity schedule
- Providing an inclusive space that supports campers’ needs
- Risk assessment and conflict resolution
- First Aid & CPR certification at no cost to you
