SideCoach Sports is a youth sports technology company that connects college athletes with youth athletes for private lessons, while also building purpose-built software for university athletic programs to manage camps and related operations. 

Founded by former Division I athletes, SideCoach Sports exists to expand access to elite coaching, empower college athletes to monetize their expertise, and provide universities with technology that saves time and improves operational efficiency for camps and events. 

The company is backed by a private investor and is in an early-stage, fast-moving phase of growth. This role is designed for someone who wants to help build a company from the ground up. 

Role Overview 

We are hiring a Founding Software Engineer (Web & Platform) to work directly under the COO and alongside the lead engineer to help build, scale, and improve SideCoach Sports’ technology platform. This is a high-ownership, highly technical role focused primarily on developing and maintaining custom university websites, improving front-end user experiences, enhancing backend systems, and building internal automation across the company. You will also contribute to improving our mobile app and core platform infrastructure.

As an early technical hire, you will play a critical role in shaping our technology stack, development practices, and product direction. As the company grows, this role is expected to evolve into a technical leadership position, with responsibility for leading and managing a team of developers. 

This role is ideal for an experienced, self-motivated engineer who enjoys taking ownership, building products end-to-end, and helping shape the future of an early-stage company. 

Key Responsibilities 

Web Development (Primary Focus) 

• Design, build, and maintain custom websites applications for university athletic programs 
• Develop responsive, user-friendly interfaces that meet university and customer needs 
• Own website projects from concept through deployment and iteration 
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions 

Backend & Platform Development 

• Develop and maintain backend services using Python 
• Build and improve APIs and integrations that support web, mobile, and internal tools 
• Improve system reliability, performance, and scalability 
• Support data flows, automation, and internal operational processes Mobile App & Product Improvements 
• Contribute to improvements and new features for the SideCoach Sports mobile app 
• Collaborate with product and engineering leadership to prioritize enhancements 
• Help ensure a consistent experience across web, mobile, and internal systems 

Automation & Internal Tools 

• Build automated workflows to improve internal efficiency and reduce manual work 
• Develop internal tools to support operations, analytics, and reporting 
• Identify technical bottlenecks and proactively propose solutions 

Cross-Functional & Technical Leadership 

• Work closely with the COO, lead engineer, and CEO on technical strategy and execution 
• Take ownership of projects and lead implementation efforts 
• Help establish development standards, best practices, and documentation 
• Over time, help hire, mentor, and manage additional engineers as the team grows 

Qualifications & Requirements 

Required 

• Several years of professional experience in web development 
• Strong experience building custom websites applications (PHP, MySQL, CSS, JavaScript; modern frameworks preferred) 
• Proficiency in Python for modeling 
• Experience building and maintaining full-stack applications 
• Ability to take projects from concept to production independently 
• Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills 
• High level of ownership, initiative, and accountability 
• Comfortable working in an early-stage, fast-moving startup environment 

Preferred (Not Required) (some of these probably should be required. Lets chat) 

• Experience building custom websites for clients or organizations 
• Experience with mobile app development or supporting mobile platforms 
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, deployments, and DevOps workflows 
• Experience designing APIs and working with databases 
• Prior experience mentoring or leading other developers 
• Interest in sports technology or marketplace platforms 

We do not expect you to know every tool or framework on day one. We care most about strong fundamentals, technical judgment, and the ability to learn quickly while delivering high-quality work.
