Entertainment Business Affairs Intern

Business Affairs Intern — Documentary Film


We are seeking a curious, analytical, and proactive Business Affairs Intern to support the producers of a feature documentary film – about a community-rooted music festival set deep in the Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky – on the business and strategy side of the project—helping with fundraising, sponsorship, distribution research, contracts, and more.

 

Role Overview

This is a hands-on role for someone interested in the business of film, entertainment law, finance, or media strategy. You’ll help research funding sources, track investor and grant outreach, support contract/legal organization, and assist in developing a smart path to distribution.

You’ll work closely with the producers and gain real insight into how independent films get financed, packaged, sold, and released.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Fundraising & Finance Support

  • Research potential funding sources:

    • Grants, foundations, film funds, arts organizations
    • Individual donors and private investors
    • Sponsorship and brand partnerships
       
  • Build and maintain outreach tracking sheets
     
  • Help draft or organize pitch materials and proposals
     
  • Track responses, follow-ups, and commitments

 

Distribution & Sales Research

  • Research potential distributors, streamers, broadcasters, and sales agents
     
  • Help identify film festivals and markets relevant to the project
     
  • Support outreach planning for sales and distribution conversations
     

Contracts & Deal Tracking

  • Organize and track contracts, releases, and agreements
     
  • Assist with:

    • Contributor agreements
    • Music and archival releases
    • Sponsorship and partnership deals
       
  • Maintain a simple contract log and status tracker

     

Business Strategy Support

  • Help build timelines for funding, festivals, and release
     
  • Contribute ideas for monetization, partnerships, and outreach

 

Who You Are

  • Interested in film business, entertainment law, finance, or media strategy
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and reliable
  • Comfortable with spreadsheets, documents, and tracking systems
  • Curious and proactive about learning how films get made and sold
  • Strong written communication skills, confident, bold, creative, tenacious, professional, and highly engaged
  • Able to work independently and manage deadlines

     

Details

  • Time Commitment: ~10–20 hours per week
  • Location: Fully remote
