Assistant STEM Teacher - Thrive Engineers Program
Job Overview
The Assistant STEM Teacher supports the Lead STEM Teacher in delivering high-quality, engaging, culturally responsive STEM instruction to children ages 3–12. This role helps facilitate hands-on learning experiences in computer science, engineering, robotics, 3D design/printing, and science while ensuring a safe, nurturing, and joyful learning environment. The Assistant STEM Teacher plays a key role in helping students build confidence, think creatively, solve problems, and feel empowered to thrive through STEM learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in teaching hands-on STEM lessons, including coding, robotics, engineering design challenges, 3D modeling/printing, and science experiments.
- Support students in using platforms such as Scratch, Code.org, LEGO robotics, micro:bit, Tinkercad, and other STEM tools.
- Help set up, manage, and break down STEM learning stations and activities.
- Provide one-on-one and small-group support to ensure all students understand concepts and stay engaged.
- Help maintain a learning environment that is safe, structured, affirming, and fun.Prepare materials, equipment, and technology needed for daily lessons.
- Help foster an environment that uplifts students’ sense of belonging, agency, and resilience
Ideal Candidate
- Has a Masters in Mathematics and/or Science and/or a STEM preferred or related field. Bachelor of Science Degree and/or demonstrated experience in teaching in a classroom environment required.
- Experience teaching elementary-aged students
- Strong background or interest in STEM/STEAM education
- Deep understanding of NET-S, NGSS, CCSS, and PBL.
- Comfortable with hands-on, project-based learning
- Organized, dependable, and passionate about youth development
- Familiarity with trauma-informed or culturally responsive teaching is a plus
