Lead STEM Teacher – Thrive Engineers Program
Job Overview
The Lead STEM Teacher serves as the primary educator and instructional designer for the Thrive Engineers program, delivering engaging, hands-on STEAM instruction that empowers elementary-aged students to build resilience, make healthy life choices, and develop strong problem-solving skills.
This role integrates engineering, coding, design thinking, and creative project-based learning with a strength-based, trauma-informed, and youth development approach. Lessons support age-appropriate learning around emotional wellness, community safety, and opioid-misuse prevention while fostering confidence, curiosity, and a sense of belonging.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate weekly STEAM lessons focused on engineering, coding, prototyping, and creative problem-solving
- Integrate age-appropriate themes of resilience, emotional wellness, community safety, and healthy choices
- Lead hands-on projects such as engineering builds, simple apps/games, and design challenges
- Create a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment
- Collaborate with program leadership on curriculum planning, materials, and assessments
- Track attendance, participation, and basic student progress for reporting
Ideal Candidate
- Has a Masters in Mathematics and/or Science and/or a STEM preferred or related field. Bachelor of Science Degree and/or demonstrated experience in teaching in a classroom environment required.
- Experience teaching elementary-aged students
- Strong background or interest in STEM/STEAM education
- Deep understanding of NET-S, NGSS, CCSS, and PBL.
- Comfortable with hands-on, project-based learning
- Organized, dependable, and passionate about youth development
- Familiarity with trauma-informed or culturally responsive teaching is a plus
