Mathematics Teaching Assistant

Position Title: Mathematics TA

Semester/Year: Spring 2026 

Total Positions Available: 5 (one for each lab, though a student may apply for multiple labs)

Supervisors: Professors Forde, King and Rusinko

Pay rate: $16 per hour 

Hours per week: 2-3.5 hours

Start Date: January 20, 2026

End Date: May 4, 2026

Students hired into on-campus jobs must complete federal employment paperwork, including the Form I9. Students must present original documents indicating they are eligible to work in the U.S. Photocopies of documents cannot be accepted. Students should ensure they have their documents on campus or have a plan to get their documents to campus if they are hired to work on campus.

  • MATH 129 with Professor Forde, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:50AM-11:20AM
  • MATH 129 with Professor Forde, Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, 9:40AM-10:40AM
  • MATH 130 with Professor King, Thursdays, 8:10AM-9:40AM
  • MATH 130 with Professor King, Thursdays, 9:50AM-11:20AM
  • MATH 131 with Professor Rusinko, Tuesdays, 8:10AM-9:40AM

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Successful completion of the course/course material for which you wish to TA.
  • Experience discussing mathematics with peers, even if not in a formal tutorial situation (for example, collaborating on mathematical exercises in a class).
  • Availability during the scheduled lab time.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possess extremely strong communication skills and be willing to take initiative.
  • Ability to admit when you do not know the answer to a question.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review course materials before each lab (the position pays for TAs to review for a half hour per week outside of lab).
  • Attend labs punctually.
  • Foster student collaboration within their groups when applicable.
  • Proactively encourage students to experiment, look at their notes and ask questions.
  • Patiently answer questions, guide students to find their own answers.
     

Review of applications will begin January 19th and continue until positions are filled. Interested applicants are to submit a cover letter and a resume. Applicants should indicate in their cover letter for which lab they are interested in working and why. Include references that can attest to your knowledge and experience, whether a former instructor for a class for which you were a student, or a lab instructor for a lab for which you were a TA.
