We Bloom Recovery Cafe Summary  

The Recovery Café is a love-based, peer recovery community rooted in radical hospitality and loving accountability, welcoming people seeking recovery in all its forms. By honoring every pathway to recovery, we create space where each person’s gifts are known, needed, and loved. We support recovery from trauma and its impacts—including substance use, mental health challenges, homelessness, and systemic barriers.  

Position Summary 
We Bloom seeks an experienced, passionate, and entrepreneurial Café Kitchen Manager to lead and grow our kitchen and barista programs at We Bloom Recovery Café. This role combines dynamic leadership in kitchen management with hands-on culinary & barista training to support the healing and recovery journey of our members and community volunteers. The successful candidate will be an innovative food service professional with a strong belief in recovery and demonstrated experience building new programs from the ground up. This position will report to the Associate Director of Recovery Café & Operations. 

Primary Responsibilities 

Meal & Barista Programs Management (Operations & Supervision) 

Plan, develop, and manage the daily operations of the adult We Bloom Recovery Café Meal Program, starting with one hot meal per day and scaling to two meals within the first year. Support Youth Café meal program as needed (currently Summer Camp only).  

Oversee meal planning, preparation, and service, ensuring high-quality, nutritious, and welcoming meals. 

Manage all aspects of food inventory, ordering, and budget planning and management with Associate Director of Recovery Café & Operations. 

Maintain kitchen equipment and ensure compliance with health and safety standards. 

Develop, lead and supervise kitchen & barista team comprised of member leaders, and community volunteers, creating a positive and supportive team culture. 

Oversee training & operations of Barista program 

 

Secondary Responsibilities –  

We Bloom Team Engagement: 

Learn and regularly use We Bloom’s chosen operating system (EOS) 

Successfully integrate into We Bloom’s Microsoft Office 365 including regular use of Teams, Outlook, Email, Planner, and Excel 

Actively engage in weekly 1-1 supervision, Level 10 (departmental meetings), monthly learning communities, and recovery circle; participate in monthly staff trainings 

Effectively collaborate and self-lead in quarterly and annual planning 

Engage in Recovery Café model training, and serve as back-up support for floor coverage, circles, and general operations. 

Community Engagement and Event Support 

Partner with the Development Team to host special events for volunteers, partners, and donors that align with We Bloom’s mission. (Phase 2) 

Phase 2 (Q3 or Q4 of 2026) 

Culinary,  Nutrition & Barista Program Leadership (School for Recovery)  

Lead the development and expansion of culinary, nutrition & barista training programs within the School for Recovery, building on current curriculum to deepen and broaden learning opportunities. 

Facilitate classroom-based and hands-on culinary instruction that equips members with foundational skills for personal use or further education with partners like Second Helpings or Ivy Tech. 

Design and deliver creative nutrition education, teaching members how to access and prepare healthy, affordable meals. 

Collaborate with community volunteers, member leaders, and partners to enrich the culinary and nutrition programs. 

Qualifications 

Proven experience in kitchen management, barista oversight, and light culinary training, including menu planning, inventory management, and leading kitchen staff. 

Teaching experience in a culinary setting is highly preferred. 

Knowledge of and commitment to recovery principles, with lived and/or professional experience in recovery strongly preferred.
