ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Performs responsible work developing exercise programs appropriate to the needs of older adults and facilitate group exercise classes through essential functions such as: responsible for developing exercise programs appropriate to the needs of older adults and facilitate group exercise classes; conducts fitness room orientation and advises participants on program procedures and policies; manages Health Promotion/Disease Prevention grant and related Evidence-Based Programs; cleans equipment, inspects and keeps equipment in good operating order; manages maintenance and repairs; distributes handouts and/or program evaluations, if appropriate, and answers questions from participants; assists in performing follow-up and communication with participants as required; ensures that safety and injury prevention policies and procedures are adhered to by participants; reports accidents and prepares accident reports as required; expected to have a thorough understanding of Department of Aging services and able to communicate those services to someone in need; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Aging Services Director.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
• Skill in the use of first aid procedures
• Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork
• Knowledge of exercise principles and technology
• Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of fitness equipment and facilities
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with older adults from all socio-economic levels
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures including proper sanitation
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and associates
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• High School Diploma or equivalent from an appropriately accredited institution and Personal Trainer and Group Exercise certifications by a nationally recognized agency (such as ACSM, AFAA, ACE) and one (1) year of fitness experience
AND
• Must possess CPR/First Aid certifications within one (1) year of employment
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This is heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and feeling; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for color perception, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, and atmospheric conditions. The worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
