Engineering Intern: Gas Turbine Combustion Engineering

Who We Are:

Join the Propulsion and Energy Section as a Graduate Student Engineer to work on a range of applied research projects. Work under the direction of engineers to assist in assembling research test rigs, operating, and recording measurements. Potential work includes supporting combustion rig design and testing.

Objectives of this Role:

  • Work under the direction of engineers to assist in assembling research test rigs, operating tests, and recording measurements.
  • Obtain meaningful applied research experience in the areas of turbomachinery, combustion, and propulsion systems.
  • Summer 2026 student position.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

  • Perform hands-on work in a laboratory environment as well as performing computer-related tasks that include analysis, and reporting.
  • Work with management and senior engineering to prioritize assigned tasks among multiple projects.
  • Utilize commercial engineering software for design or analysis; this may include computational fluid dynamics (CFD) or finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Conduct experimental testing using LabVIEW for data acquisition and interpret results to make conclusions about the work.
  • Generate independent ideas/approaches to solve problems that do not have a clear solution and share with management and senior engineer staff.

Requirements:

  • Must be pursuing a Masters or a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related engineering degree.
  • 0 years: A strong interest and knowledge in thermodynamics, turbomachinery, combustion, and propulsion systems.
  • Familiarity or ability to utilize commercial engineering software for design or analysis, this may include computational fluid dynamics (CFD) or finite element analysis (FEA).
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.

Special Requirements:

Must be a U.S. person (i.e., U.S. citizen, non-U.S. citizen national, lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) due to ITAR work in section.
