Graduate Student Worker - Peer Educator

Job Overview

The TSAS Peer Educator plays an important role in supporting student-athletes by providing peer-to-peer education, outreach, and administrative support related to student services and financial wellness. Working within Trojan Student Athletic Services (TSAS), this position assists with streamlining communication, managing data, and helping student-athletes navigate campus resources. The TSAS Peer Educator collaborates with Student Services staff and campus partners to ensure information is accurate, accessible, and responsive to the needs of diverse student-athlete populations. This position requires a consistent weekly time commitment to ensure continuity of services.

Key Responsibilities

Peer Education & Student Support

Serve as a peer resource for student-athletes by sharing information related to financial aid, housing, international services, athletic aid, and other TSAS-supported services. Assist student-athletes in understanding available resources and guide them to appropriate offices when needed.

Program & Outreach Support

Assist with the implementation of peer education initiatives, workshops, presentations, and outreach efforts focused on financial wellness and student success. Support programming for specific student-athlete populations, including new students, transfers, international students, and summer starts.

Data Collection & Management

Assist student services staff in the collection, organization, and management of data related to student-athlete services, including financial aid, housing, collections, athletic rosters, and related services. Maintain centralized and accessible documentation within shared drives and institutional platforms.

Communication & Administrative Support

Support the Director of Student Services and TSAS staff by assisting with student meetings, disseminating information, and helping streamline communication with student-athletes. Organize materials and documentation related to projects and programming.

Collaboration

Attend student services team meetings as needed and collaborate with TSAS staff and campus partners to support cohesive service delivery and accurate information sharing.

Professional Conduct & Crisis Awareness

Maintain professionalism and confidentiality when working with sensitive student information. Serve as a supportive peer and refer student-athletes to professional staff or campus resources when issues fall outside the scope of the peer educator role.

Emergency Response

As an essential student employee, report to duty during emergencies in accordance with the University’s Emergency Operations Plan and departmental response procedures. Participate in required training related to emergency response and recovery.

Qualifications

Education

  • Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be a currently enrolled USC student in good academic standing
  • Relevant coursework in education, business, communication, or related fields preferred

Experience

  • Experience in peer education, student services, or administrative support preferred
  • Experience working with student athletes is a plus

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to manage data and maintain accurate records
  • Comfort working with software, databases, and shared digital platforms
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Approachable, reliable, and able to maintain confidentiality

Availability Requirement

  • Must be available to work 15–20 hours per week
  • Availability is required Monday through Thursday on a consistent basis
  • Occasional Friday availability as needed for programming, meetings, or events

Other Requirements

  • Ability to commit to a consistent weekly work schedule throughout the academic term
  • Flexibility to meet the evolving needs of TSAS and student-athletes
  • Willingness to perform other related duties as assigned

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work at a desk or computer for extended periods
  • Ability to attend meetings and support events in various campus settings
