Paid STEM Teaching Gig: Youth Instructor

Job Title: Paid STEM Teaching Gig | Youth Instructor

Pay: $50 per class (90-min instruction + logistics)

Location: Near West Side (Close to UIC & DePaul campuses)

The Gist: Are you a college student looking for a high-paying, flexible gig that looks great on a resume? Young Engineers Near West is hiring instructors to teach engineering concepts to kids using motorized LEGO®-compatible models.

Why this beats a standard campus job:

  • Great Pay: We pay a flat rate of $50 per class.
  • No Lesson Planning: We provide a pre-set curriculum and lesson plans. You just bring the energy!
  • Resume Builder: Gain real experience in public speaking, classroom management, and education leadership.
  • Flexible but Consistent: You pick the day(s) you can work (M-F afternoons or Sat/Sun daytime). We just ask that you commit to that same day for the full 8–12 week term.

Neighborhoods We Serve: We have classes in West Loop/Tri-Taylor (near UIC), Lincoln Park (near DePaul), Wicker Park, Logan Square, and Humboldt Park.

Responsibilities:

  • Pick up class materials from our storage unit in 60622.
  • Drive to a local school and lead a 90-minute STEM workshop for elementary students (ages 6–12).
  • Teach the "engineering concept of the day" and help kids build their models.
  • Take short photos/videos of the cool models students build to share with parents.
  • Return the materials to the storage unit after class.

Requirements:

  • Must have a car (to transport 3 medium carrying cases and a folding dolly cart).
  • Must be great with kids (camp counselor or tutoring experience is a huge plus).
  • No engineering degree required! We train you on the models and curriculum.
  • Paid training (4–5 hours) is provided before you start.
