With over 300 animals in our hands-on zoo and over 100 activities, Cub Creek Science Camp is not your average summer camp. We have staff and campers from all over the world who all share the same passion for science, nature and animals.
Working a Summer at camp will give you experience working with kids that will put your future resume to the top of the pile! You will learn behavior management techniques, practice your teaching and instruction skills, learn to build rapport with campers of all ages and experience a diverse community of campers and co-workers.

Position Overview:
Lead Instructors are responsible for facilitating activities for campers including classes, early-birds, and night-owl activities. Lead instructors should have some experience instructing children or teens in their area of specialty.
Lead Instructor areas of specialty are:
- Science - physics, construction engineering, chemistry, crime science, culinary science
- Nature - pond study, caving, plant identification, entomology, nature hikes
- Adventure - archery, riflery, survival skills, caving
- Ropes Course - zipline, rappel, climbing wall, crate stacking
- Arts and Crafts - pottery, ceramics, crafts
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide instruction of assigned camp activities to campers
- Provide guidance to campers on their schedule, activity choices, and abiding camp rules
- Lead cabin activities, songs, and games that are engaging and age appropriate
- Provide emotional and behavioral support to campers as needed by following behavior management techniques as outlined in the staff manual and during training
- Ensure the safety of all campers when participating in camp activities
Compensation and Benefits:
Starting pay $4500 for 12 week summer. Additional $100 credit in camp store for snacks and supplies. Housing, meals, and laundry included. Weekend work is required, this position requires availability to work on-site 7 days a week for the contract period. 2-hour break provided each day, and 1 scheduled day off each week. Additional leadership training and certifications are available to the right candidates, including high ropes course and lifeguard certifications.
Dates: May 17th- August 8th, 2026.
Required Experience and Skills:
- Completed at least 1 year of college education
- A desire to positively impact the life of a child and willingness to put the needs of campers first
- Have a passion for science, animals and childhood development
- Able to effectively communicate ideas, and instructions in a constructive manner
- Self-motivated and able to work on tasks and assigned goals with minimal supervision
- Be willing to learn new concepts and skills
- Able to work in a team and both give and take direction from others
- Willingness to adhere to camp’s code of conduct, rules and policies
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Lead Instructors will be required to work outdoors in all weather conditions. An average of 3 miles of walking is expected each day and all staff must be comfortable walking on uneven ground for extended periods. Willing and able to sleep in shared housing in a cabin with other counselors and campers, single or private accommodation is not available. Comfortable sleeping outdoors at least one night a week and enthusiastically supporting campers to sleep out. Comfortable being near a range of animals including snakes, spiders, lizards and other native- and non-native species. Able to sustain energy and enthusiasm throughout the full work day. Weekend work is required, this position requires availability to work on-site 7 days a week for the contract period. Functions, activities, and working conditions may change or new ones may be added during the course of employment to support the operation of camp.
