John B. Ward & Co Arborists has been caring for the Main Line’s canopy since 1957. We are looking for motivated people with a genuine interest in trees to join our growing Plant Health Care team.
As Plant Health Care Specialists, our purpose is to ensure the well-being of trees and shrubs on our client landscapes. You will work alongside a senior member of the Plant Health Care team, receiving on the job training while performing treatments to extend the longevity of the tree and plant specimens in our care.
The Plant Health Care Seasonal Internship is an 8-week summer intensive program. Participants will receive specialized training in trunk injection treatments for Beech Leaf Disease, Bacterial Leaf Scorch, Emerald Ash Borer, and Dutch Elm Disease. Instruction includes tree and disease identification, treatment administration, injection equipment operation and maintenance, and customer relationship management.
Throughout the program, participants will have opportunities to pursue additional training in arboriculture alongside our team of ISA Certified Arborists. The program duration is 8 weeks (May 26-July 17). Upon successful completion of the program, participants may be considered for additional opportunities within the company.
Daily Responsibilities:
- Become proficient with application methods and knowledgeable of materials used in plant health care.
- Effectively maintain and calibrate equipment
- Travel to client locations throughout the greater Philadelphia region to perform treatments
- Communicate with clients in a professional and courteous manner
- Maintain safety standards while operating vehicles, equipment, and treatment products
Qualifications
- Ability to learn and understand tree/plant identification and corresponding insect and disease issues
- Willingness to complete required training and maintain high standard of quality control
- Ability to perform strenuous manual labor and work in all weather conditions
- Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills to understand and meet client needs
- Valid driver’s license and at least 1 year driving experience
- Coursework in Horticulture, Environmental Science, Landscape Management or related fields preferred. However, we consider candidates with alternative fields of study if there is demonstrated interest in trees and plants
- Prior experience in landscaping, tree care or related field work is a plus

Work Schedule
- Full-Time, with the opportunity for overtime
- Part-Time will be considered on a case-by-case basis
- Monday-Friday, 6:30AM – 3:30PM
