Conservation Internship
The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, in partnership with local Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCD), is seeking an intern to work on a variety of soil conservation and water quality program support tasks in the USDA Sidney Field Office. This position will offer the opportunity to learn a diverse set of conservation skills in the field and office environment.
Location: USDA Sidney Field Office, 503 W St., Sidney, IA 51652
Duration: May 2026-December 2026
Compensation: $14.00/hour (part time/full time not to exceed 480 hours)
Description: Intern will work in joint capacity with IDALS and NRCS to assist with conservation related activities including:
- Providing excellent customer service when working with the public, landowners, and customers.
- Spending time outdoors during summer months (rough terrain and inclement weather)
- Assisting with conservation planning, layout, and checkout.
- Presenting a final report to SWCD Commissioners summarizing intern experience and attend required trainings.
Preferred Skills
- Interest in hands-on-learning about Iowa’s soil and water conservation programs.
- Must be graduating high school senior/current college student enrolled and majoring in a field of study related to agriculture, conservation, engineering, construction trades, GIS, communications, public relations, urban planning, or environmental sciences. Recent college graduates are not eligible to apply.
