Position | Community Impact and Events Intern

Time | May 2026 - August 2026

Hours | 40 hours per week, in-person 

Compensation | $20 per hour 
 

Mission

The mpls downtown council (mdc) mission is creating an extraordinary downtown through leadership, collaboration, advocacy, and innovation. Founded in 1955 and the mpls downtown council is one of the oldest central business district associations in the nation, the mpls downtown council produces such cherished Minneapolis events and programming throughout the year.

The Mpls Downtown Improvement District (DID) is a business-led, 501c6 non-profit that leads and collaborates to create a clean, green, safe and vibrant downtown by convening, developing solutions, activating and continuously improving existing programs.

MDC and the DID partners with various organizations and community groups to produce events throughout the whole year. Our summer roster of events and activation includes Pianos on Parade, Go Outside with Hennepin County, Nicollet Mall Activation, The Alley Project, Peavey Plaza, the Prince Sing Along and more. 

General responsibilities may include: 

  • On-site Event Staff for all mdc and DID produced events and activations. 
  • Logistics support for event operations.
  • Compile all necessary supplies and materials for events and activation.
  • Develop and distribute load in/out information for vendors, performers, and other partners.
  • Track and schedule entertainment for events and activation. 
  • Develop and manage inclusive activities for various downtown mpls programming locations including development of games, activities, giveaways, and on-site event support. 
  • Maintain a best practices binder.
  • Maintain an entertainment and activity database. 
  • Support the Nicollet Community Space as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:

  • Experience in events, place making, and activation. 
  • Experience in working with vendors or partners.  
  • Experience with project management. 
  • Physical demands, ability to lift 25 lbs, stand for extended periods of time and work in various weather elements. 

Candidate Competencies: 

  • Ability to take initiative on projects and provide creative problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and respond to changing needs. 
  • Solid organizational skills. 
  • Solid communication skills, both written and oral. 
  • Ability to work independently without supervisor present and within a team environment.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. 
  • Working knowledge of Adobe creative suite is a plus but not required. 
  • Willingness to roll up his/her sleeves to deliver on organizational commitments including occasional nights and weekends.
