Dining and Retail Services - Residential Hiring Aide (Spring 2026)

JOB SUMMARY  

As a Hiring Aide for Dining and Retail Services, you will be responsible for hiring student employees for the Residential Cafés, Restors, Palm Gardens, and the Catering department. You will guide student employees through the hiring process using attentive thoughtful communication, coordination, organization, and creative problem-solving.  

This position requires a high level of information confidentiality, strong attention to detail, a customer-driven atmosphere, effective communication with department and intercampus representatives, and an understanding of UWM’s Dining and Retail Services policies and procedures.   

The Hiring Aide must be able to work independently, solve problems, and seek information from various sources when needed. 

Starting rate is $12.00 per hour, with an opportunity for semester raises based on performance.  

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS  

  • Correspond with candidates, student employees, and UWM staff 
  • Assist with creating and updating student position descriptions and job postings  
  • Post student employment opportunities on Handshake  
  • Screen applications and communicate with candidates via email  
  • Schedule and conduct employment interviews  
  • Prepare and send student offer letters  
  • Monitor, guide, and assist students through the hiring process  
  • Assist with data entry for processes such as onboarding, evaluations, terminations, and other related functions as diected  
  • Prepare, file, and maintain employment paperwork  

  

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Must be a currently enrolled UWM student  
  • Available to work 3–4 days per week  
  • Ability to work 12–15 hours per week  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills  
  • Punctual, dependable, and professional  
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills  
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and Handshake  

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business, Psychology, or a related field 
  • Previous customer service or administrative experience
