Coordinator Facilities Maintenance (part-time)

Position Summary

The Coordinator of Facilities Maintenance is a part-time staff position responsible for supporting the care and upkeep of the church campus ensuring it is safe, functional, welcoming and prepared for the ministries and activities of the church. The coordinator works closely with church and preschool staff, church leadership, volunteers, and vendors to coordinate the routine maintenance, repairs, facility needs, and readiness of the church’s buildings and grounds.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Facilities Maintenance & Care

  • Coordinate with volunteer maintenance team and, if necessary, contractors to accomplish routine, light maintenance tasks such as minor repairs, troubleshooting small facility issues, changing light bulbs, painting touch-ups, and seasonal upkeep.
  • Conduct regular walk-throughs of buildings and grounds to identify maintenance needs and to monitor the general condition of buildings, equipment, storage areas, and grounds, reporting larger issues promptly.
  • Assist with seasonal facility tasks (weather-related preparation, grounds tidiness, etc.).
  • Work with the Leadership Board to schedule, coordinate, and oversee major repairs and maintenance needs with approved vendors, contractors, and service providers.
  • Monitor vendor work to ensure quality, safety, and timely completion.

2. Ministry Support & Space Preparation

  • Assist in preparing rooms and ministry spaces for Sunday morning and weekly activities (tables, chairs, equipment setup).
  • Coordinate volunteers to assist in resetting and/or cleaning up spaces following events.
  • Work with staff to support special services, large events, and seasonal worship needs (Advent, Lent, VBS, etc.).

3. Preventive Maintenance & Vendor Coordination

  • Maintain a schedule for preventive maintenance on HVAC systems, electrical systems, plumbing, and other building components.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for maintenance-related service calls.
  • Ensure contractor work meets church expectations and is completed in a timely and professional manner.

4. Safety & Stewardship

  • Support the church’s commitment to hospitality and safety by monitoring lighting, walkways, entrances, signage, accessibility and emergency equipment.
  • Maintain records of maintenance tasks, inspections, and service intervals.
  • Help ensure compliance with local building and safety codes, annual inspections, fire suppression equipment, and United Methodist safe property practices.

5. Budget & Financial Oversight

  • Prepare an annual Ministry Action Plan (budget) for facilities maintenance.
  • Submit expenses and ensure all purchases align with pre-approved, budgeted plans.

6. Additional Duties

  • Complete all additional duties assigned that align with the mission of CFUMC.

Other Expectations

  • This position is part-time meaning on average this position requires twenty (20) hours per week (flexible scheduling based on ministry and repair needs).
  • Occasional evening, weekend, and holiday support may be required for special events.
  • Reports to the Executive Administrative Assistant.
  • Works collaboratively with the church and preschool staff, ministry leaders, and the Leadership Board.
  • The Senior Pastor and Leadership Board have ultimate responsibility for all church employees.
  • This position is supervised in accordance with the Employee Handbook of Cumming First UMC and the current edition of The Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church.

Qualifications

  • Experience in general building maintenance, facility management, or related work preferred.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing).
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and perform physical tasks.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time well, and communicate clearly.
  • A spirit of teamwork, hospitality, and commitment to supporting the ministries of the church.
  • Alignment with the mission and values of The United Methodist church.
