Job Description

Supervision Received: Transportation Director and Assistant Supervisor

 

Description of Position: Evaluate, diagnose and repair routine Transportation Department vehicle failures and immediately report major problems to Supervisors.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Respond to service calls to determine the severity of the problem and make required repairs.
  • Perform annual inspections on all District owned buses.
  • Inspect and perform preventive servicing checks on vehicles (fluid levels, lubrication and tire servicing).
  • Inspect, diagnose and repair district bus and vehicle fleet.
  • Inspect buses daily for damage.
  • Maintain assigned service parts inventory.
  • Maintain accurate records in the use of parts.
  • Keep maintenance shop clean and organized.
  • Keep parts and equipment clean and organized, ensures items are in operating condition.
  • Provide other services in support of the Transportation Department.
  • Be available to fill in as a sub-driver as needed.

 

Minimum Qualifications Required:

  • Two (2) years of mechanical experience in automotive or related repair; or any combination of training and experience that would enable an applicant to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Lift objects weighing 50 pounds, move objects weighing 125 pounds and up to 30 feet.
  • Operate power, hydraulic and electronic equipment.
  • Possess or acquire within 120 calendar days a valid Class B CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements.
  • Possess a valid SCDE/US DOT physical card.
  • Satisfactory background check.
  • Successfully pass a drug screening for illegal drugs and tuberculosis exam.

 

Terms of Employment: 240 days, 8 hours per day. Non- Exempt. FMSD M1-Mechanic Salary Schedule. Initial placement on a salary schedule is based upon a formula that considers background, education, and experience.

 

Evaluation: Performance on this job will be evaluated annually by the Director of Transportation and in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy related to non-certified personnel
