LHSI Intern: Member Engagement Projects

Program Summary:    

This internship is offered as a part of the Life-Health Sciences Internship Program (LHSI). This program connects 125 IU Indianapolis undergraduates per year with internships on campus with faculty and staff in a variety of health and science related campus areas/programs. All LHSI internships start in August 2026 and end in May 2027 and are paid $14/hour for up to 10 hours per week. Work-study is accepted but not required.

Department/Office: Medicine Cancer Center 

Overview of the internship site: Build connections and support projects that decrease Hoosier cancers. The Indiana Cancer Consortium, under the fiscal sponsorship of IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center, is Indiana's only statewide cancer consortium. Membership includes over 130 individuals, such as healthcare professionals and public health workers, as well as over 150 organizational members. Consortium work focuses on collaborative projects, professional education, and other activities uniting Hoosiers against cancer. This role offers hands-on experience in public health collaboration, content development, and program support, contributing to cancer prevention and control initiatives across Indiana.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

Member Communication & Outreach: Correspond with individual and organizational members via email and other channels; Assist with website updates and create engaging social media content. 

Committee & Program Support: Participate in ICC committee meetings and continuing education activities (e.g., conferences, webinars); Provide logistical and administrative support for committee initiatives. 

Project Development: Brainstorm and propose projects aligned with grant-funded opportunities; Assist in managing and tracking funded projects. 

Work Environment and Dress Code: The work is performed primarily in an office setting with dress code: Smart casual 

Project-specific qualifications:  

Experience with Canva for creating visually appealing content. 

Ability to write clear, concise, and engaging content for diverse audiences. 

Passion for community engagement and promoting public health. 

Basic knowledge of social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn). 

Strong organizational skills to handle multiple tasks, manage deadlines, and prioritize effectively. 

Attention to detail to ensure accuracy and error-free content. 

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. 

Familiarity with website content management systems (or willingness to learn). 

Hours per week: 7-9; flexible within regular work hours

LHSI Qualifications    

must be graduating May 2028 or after (usually a current freshman or sophomore in Spring 2026)   

Current full time IU Indianapolis undergraduate in 2026-27 

minimum overall GPA of 2.0   

All majors welcome
