Park Maintenance Specialist: Full-Time (Non-Exempt)
Status: Full-Time, Hourly (Non-Exempt)
Rate: $19.00 starting hourly rate to $32.00 maximum hourly rate
Pay Grade: C | Starting pay based on prior experience and education
Location: Penitentiary Glen Reservation | 8668 Kirtland Chardon Road, Kirtland, OH 44094
Position Description: Under the direction of the Regional Buildings and Grounds Manager, the Park Maintenance Specialist performs building and grounds maintenance to ensure public safety and maintain the overall condition of park buildings, grounds, and natural areas at Penitentiary Glen Reservation. This position requires flexibility to work occasional weekends, evenings, and holidays.
Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Perform mowing, landscaping, grounds maintenance, and snow removal, including plowing, snow blowing, shoveling, and surface treatment.
- Perform custodial services before and after daily visitation, park programs, rentals, and special events, including restroom cleaning, trash and recycling removal, and restocking supplies.
- Perform building maintenance and special projects, including painting, basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical repairs, and construction tasks.
- Troubleshoot and perform basic repairs and preventative maintenance on park buildings, amenities, and systems.
- Assist with trail maintenance, tree removal, and construction of park amenities.
- Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, landscaping equipment, and park vehicles.
- Assist with set-up, tear-down, and janitorial duties for park programs and community events.
- Order, inventory, and stock maintenance supplies and equipment.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- One (1) to two (2) years of prior experience in general maintenance preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required and must be insurable under Lake Metroparks’ policy.
Position Requirements:
- Ability to perform heavy physical labor and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to work an irregular schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.
- Ability to work independently, as part of a team, or as a project lead.
- Must successfully complete a pre-employment substance screen and background check.
- Required to complete and maintain all mandatory Lake Metroparks training, including safety, PPE, and emergency procedures.
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office, email, and web-based systems.
