Employment Specialist
Avidd Community Services of New Jersey, Inc proudly serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Morris, Bergen, and Somerset Counties. Our residential programs are homes that are settled in various communities throughout suburban North Jersey. Each home is custom suited to its residents, their abilities, needs and personalities. Avidd strongly believes in fostering independence and teaching life skills.
We are currently seeking an Employment Specialist for our programs in Bergen County, Somerset County and Morris County.
Full time / Part time Shifts Available- Must be willing to travel to Bergen and Morris Counties.
Salary is based on education, experience, and previous training.
Responsibilities
- Identify the needs of individuals as they relate to employment, including but not limited to physical, social, and personal needs.
- Communicate with individuals to understand their goals and ambitions and supports needed to achieve them.
- Prepare individuals for employment through work-readiness skills, including resume writing, interviewing skills, etc.
- Match individuals to specific employment opportunities.
- Monitor and support individuals in various job tasks, job performance and taking steps to ensure individuals can do their jobs accurately and to employer satisfaction.
- Recommend necessary job accommodations to assist individuals with successful.
- Write and maintain required documents as specified by various funding sources (i.e., job analysis, task analysis, discrepancy analysis and progress notes) to document individual's progress on the job.
- Advocate for individuals in such areas as Social Security, employer provided benefits, evaluations, etc.
- Appropriately represent Avidd’s philosophy and mission when communicating with school districts, employers, parents, community members, funding sources, etc.
- Attend meetings regarding individuals, case managers, and other stakeholders as needed.
- Follow chain of command as indicated for each program. This is typically as follows: Coordinator of Community Supports, Executive Director.
Minimum Requirements
- Associates degree required
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
- Minimum two years of relevant experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
- Complete all state and agency required training per state guidelines
- Ability to work individually and with a team to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
- Ability to establish a comfortable and supportive relationship with employers
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent time management skills
