Survey Field Technician
Position Summary
The Survey Field Technician supports land surveying and mapping activities by collecting, documenting, and verifying field data using a variety of survey instruments and technologies. This role works closely with surveyors, engineers, and project managers to ensure accurate measurements and reliable data for construction, design, and land development projects. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-focused, and comfortable working outdoors in varying conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in conducting field surveys for boundary, topographic, construction, and as-built projects.
- Operate and maintain survey instruments, including total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, data collectors, and levels.
- Set up and break down survey equipment, tripod setups, and temporary control points.
- Collect accurate measurements and record field notes while following established survey procedures.
- Support construction staking activities, including layout of utilities, roads, buildings, and other site features.
- Ensure all data is properly logged, labeled, and transmitted to office staff for drafting and analysis.
- Follow safety protocols and adhere to company, client, and regulatory requirements.
- Perform basic equipment troubleshooting, calibration checks, and maintenance.
- Collaborate with field crews, survey supervisors, and project managers to meet project schedules.
- Assist with transporting materials, stakes, and equipment to project sites.
Qualifications Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to various job sites.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and on uneven terrain.
- Strong math, measurement, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lift 40–50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
Qualifications Preferred:
- Experience with survey equipment (total stations, GPS/GNSS, data collectors).
- Familiarity with surveying principles, construction plans, or civil engineering practices.
- Coursework or certification in surveying, GIS, geomatics, or related fields.
- Experience with survey software (Trimble, Leica, Carlson, or similar).
