Assistant Camp Director

Camp Sharing Meadows Job Description

Title: Summer Camp Assistant Director

Duration: 5 weeks plus training (June 9-July 17, 2026)

Pay: $4000 for the summer plus housing, meals, a full summer bonus, and an additional week of paid training prior to orientation.

  1. Who We Are:
    • The Share Foundation is a privately funded Christian non-profit that provides faith-based independent living and camp experiences for our adult friends with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Camp Sharing Meadows is an inclusive Christian camp for adult campers with disabilities, where a vibrant blend of community, faith, and creative exploration takes focus. Our camp provides 5 weeks of overnight summer camp plus weekend camps throughout the year for other-abled adults. Campers have the opportunity to participate in traditional camp activities, make lasting friendships, and grow spiritually.

    • Our camp is comprised of approximately 25 campers each week, plus about 10 counselors, multiple cooks, and a nurse. Daily camp programming is facilitated by the Assistant Camp Director and overseen by the Camp Coordinator.
  2. Qualifications: No experience is necessary to be the Assistant Director, though previous camp, ministry, or special needs experience is helpful. Training is provided during mandatory staff orientation, including CPR and First Aid training. The Assistant Director must:
    • Demonstrate patience and tolerance for other-abled adults with a wide range of abilities and needs.
    • Possess strong leadership skills, including ability to multi-task, coordinate activities, direct other staff, and provide feedback to other staff as needed.
    • Ability to work unsupervised while providing for all needs of the campers and staff and ensuring all responsibilities are completed. 
    • Be able to physically provide personal care, including lifting, bathing, dressing, hygiene, and feeding for adult campers. 
    • Possess a great attitude at all times and be a role model for our campers and other staff.
    • Be able to be engaged with our campers during all activities, including crafts, swimming, meals, fishing, campfires, hikes, faith-based value sessions, dances, sports/ games,  and more. 
    • Possess strong communication, organization, and critical thinking skills. 
    • Be 18+ years of age
    • Pass a background check

 

  1. Responsibilities: The Assistant Camp Director supervises and directs all aspects of camp during each week, including scheduled activities, meals, camper care, counselor responsibilities, etc. The Assistant Director must act as a role model to other staff and campers at all times, providing leadership and support to ensure all campers and staff have a positive experience at camp. Assistant Director responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    • Supervise all camp staff, including providing training, positive reinforcement, and constructive feedback to improve performance.
    • Practice in-the-moment problem solving and quick thinking to ensure a positive and enriching camp experience.
    • Enforce camp rules/ regulations to ensure the safety of all campers and staff.
    • Be an available, understanding, and compassionate companion for the campers and staff.
    • Practice and promote gentle teaching to ensure our campers have a great camp experience while learning and growing. 
    • Reinforce Share values and Christian values to bring the campers closer to Christ through love and actions.
    • Be present and engaged during all camp activities, including leading activities throughout each day, preparing for activities, and cleaning up as needed. Train staff in activities to ensure proper implementation.
    • Provide and encourage hands-on teaching during activities to support growth and independence. 
    • Adapt activities and support for the varying needs of campers, including communication, social skills, physical limitation, and self-care skills. 
    • Assist campers as needed with personal care, including verbal reminders, and full physical support in tasks such as bathing, toileting, toothbrushing, and dressing. 
    • Ensure all aspects of campers’ livelihood are cared for, including nutrition, quality of life, medication and health, spirituality, and safety. 
    • Maintain consistent communication with the Camp Coordinator regarding daily events, concerns, or issues. 

 

  1. Work Hours:
    • Your summer contract will start on June 9, 2026 and end on July 17th, 2026.
    • The ideal candidate would be available for an additional week of paid training and preparation June 1st- June 5th. 
    • Staff training will start at 12 PM on June 9th and end at 4 PM on June 12th.
    • Each week of camp will start at 2 PM Sunday with a staff meeting and end at 3 PM Friday.
    • During time off, the Assistant Director is welcome to leave camp, although lodging is provided if they choose to stay.
