Job Title: Forest Technician (Part-Time, Seasonal)

Quick Job Summary:
The City is seeking a motivated Part-Time, Seasonal Forest Technician (May–August) to support hands-on forestry and natural resource management work. This position is ideal for students or early-career professionals pursuing forestry or related fields who want real-world field experience in timber management, GPS mapping, pest monitoring, and forest data collection.

What You’ll Do:

Assist with timber cruising, marking, and mapping using GPS

Collect and update timber stand and vegetation data

Monitor forests for gypsy moths, southern pine beetle, and other pests

Support reforestation, timber stand improvement, erosion control, and BMP work

Help manage invasive species and assist with forest management planning

Perform other forestry-related duties as assigned

Who Should Apply:

Students or individuals studying forestry or a related field

Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions

Interested in gaining practical, hands-on forestry experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Coursework in forestry, dendrology, or forest mensuration

Basic knowledge of GPS, GIS, and data collection

Strong communication, teamwork, and time-management skills

Additional Requirements:

Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record

Successful completion of background check and pre-employment evaluations

Physical & Environmental Requirements:

Moderate physical activity, including lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing, kneeling, and working outdoors

Exposure to weather extremes, wildlife, terrain, and forestry equipment
