Social Media Intern for Movie

Social Media Intern — Documentary Film

We are seeking a creative, self-directed Social Media Intern to help build the digital presence for a feature documentary movie from the ground up, growing an engaged audience around the project as it moves through production, festivals, and release.

 

Role Overview

This is a hands-on, creative role for someone who loves music, storytelling, and digital culture—and wants real ownership of this aspect of the film – a feature documentary about a music festival in production now for distribution in Q4 of 2026. You will help launch and manage the film’s social channels, develop original content, engage fans and artists, support media outreach, and experiment with ways to grow awareness and community around the film.

You will work closely with the film’s producers and creative team and have the opportunity to shape the voice and tone of the project.

 

Key Responsibilities

Social Media Strategy & Setup

  • Launch and manage official social media accounts (Instagram, X, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, as appropriate)
  • Help define the film’s social voice, tone, and aesthetic
  • Develop a content calendar aligned with production milestones and other events

Content Creation

  • Identify opportunities for timely, organic storytelling and create original social content, including:
    • Posts, captions, reels, stories, and short-form videos
    • Quote cards, behind-the-scenes moments, artist highlights
  • Work with existing footage, stills, and design assets & the festival’s media team

Community Building & Engagement

  • Working with the festival’s media team, engage with followers, artists, fans, and partners
  • Monitor comments, messages, and conversations
  • Encourage user-generated content and fan participation

Crowdsourcing & Outreach

  • Help crowdsource stories, photos, memories, and testimonials from festival attendees
  • Identify and reach out to artists, fans, and creators for reposts or collaborations
  • Support grassroots growth through partnerships with music and culture accounts and crowdfunding campaign (IndieGoGo or similar)

Media & Influencer Outreach

  • Identify relevant journalists, podcasters, playlists, and culture writers
  • Help draft outreach messages and track responses
  • Support promotion of press coverage, trailers, and announcements

Analytics & Optimization

  • Track basic social metrics (engagement, growth, reach)
  • Help assess what content performs best and iterate accordingly

 

Who You Are

  • Skilled at social media (across platforms) and on top of trends and innovative break-through messaging
  • Passionate about music, culture, film, and storytelling
  • Comfortable creating content and experimenting creatively
  • Organized, reliable, and proactive – able to seize opportunities, seek virality, prestige hack, and grow the brand
  • Strong written voice and good visual instincts
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively; not afraid to pitch ideas or try new approaches
  • A sense of humor and curiosity is a plus

 

Details

  • Time Commitment: ~10–20 hours per week
  • Location: Fully remote
  • Compensation: TBD; college credit available if applicable
  • Duration: Somewhat flexible; ideally starting by February 1 and running through the film’s completion
