The pay rate is $15.60, 40 hours per week. 

Potential opportunity for AmeriCorps member partnership with a ~$1,500 education award that can be used for education or loan expenses (must meet criteria and be accepted into the AmeriCorps program to be eligible – this will happen after job offer and acceptance with the Bowdoin Upward Bound program). 

A driver's license is not required to apply, but licensed drivers are highly needed. 

Program dates run from June 14 to August 6, 2026. 

 

Universal Roles & Responsibilities: 

Residential Guides are responsible for supporting both program and students to ensure a safe, healthy, productive and growthful experience for UB students while in residence. The summer program comprises 3 sessions:  

Session1: Residential Scholars- a 4 week academic residential program at Bowdoin 

Session 2:  Travel Week- a week-long New England college and educational tour, AND a 5-day Downeast Regional program (groups to be assigned after hiring)

Session 3: Jumpstart- a week-long transition focused boot-camp style session at Bowdoin for rising seniors & students bridging to college. 

Shared roles and responsibilities will vary according to the session and will include: 

Supervising residential spaces to ensure health and safety, and foster engagement, and inclusion (all sessions) including 

Afternoon/evening dorm duties as assigned  

Facilitate evening floor check-in and lights out  

Overnight supervision in dorms or hotel  

Plan & facilitate programming 

Supervise weekly chore areas 

Planning and facilitating weekend activities (Res Scholars) 

Chaperoning / Driving transportation to and from campus for Washington County students 

Leading and supervising service projects 

Leading trips, including supervising students during a week-long travel experience (all sessions) OR travel to Washington County to assist with regional program 

Supervising meals, including taking attendance (all sessions) 

Participate in weekly Res staff meeting (Res Scholars) 

Participate in daily Community Meeting (Jumpstart, Res Scholars) 

Assisting with pre-program space preparation and post-program cleaning & organization (gear, supplies, etc) 

Other duties as assigned 

Academic Guides 

Academic Guides are essential support to the academic program during the 4-week Residential Scholars session. Each Academic Guide will be assigned to a specific Learning Community (LC) for the 4 weeks. In addition to the universal responsibilities listed above, Academic Guides duties include (but aren’t limited to): 

Transport students to off-site field locations. Academic Guides must have a valid driver’s license for 1 year and successfully complete the College driver authorization process. 

Coordinate with faculty and Operations Administrator to assure that transportation, food, & supply needs are anticipated and met 

Provide academic support to students to maximize engagement and student success 

Communicate between faculty and Core Staff regarding student concerns, including attendance issues, participation, etc 

Contribute to student evaluations at the close of the program 

Residential Guides 

Residential Guides are essential support to all aspects of the 4-week Residential Scholars program outside of academics. In addition to the universal responsibilities listed above, Residential Guides are responsible for: 

Planning and facilitating a weekly workshop (3 meeting series) 

Supporting the College and Career Readiness Program by assisting with and facilitating workshops 

Facilitating & supporting evening activities and workshops as assigned 

Supporting student health and wellbeing, including training in medication administration

Anticipate program needs and take initiative to meet them 

Be willing to take a leadership role in group settings 

Exercise good judgment both independently and with others 

Personal Awareness 

Reflect and have self-awareness of one’s previous experiences, implicit bias, or assumptions and how they impact one’s work 

Persist through stressful situations and practice sufficient self care 

Time Management 

Anticipate needs/issues and take action prior to them becoming urgent  

Follow and understand program schedule, and be on time for duties 

Plan and execute a workshop curriculum of one’s design
