What’s the Role?
The Deputy City Auditor is the top advisor to the City Auditor of Syracuse (like a chief of staff), who
leads the day-to-day operations of the City Auditor’s office and works with the elected City Auditor to
set and implement a policy agenda.

What You Will Do:
 Top aide to citywide elected official (equivalent to Chief of Staff), assists in crafting
communications, outreach, and policy strategy;
 Write audit plans; supervise staff in researching, data collection, and analysis to generate
findings;
 Research municipal topics, laws and regulations, and best practices; analyze complex data;
 Draft reports including findings and recommendations; copy edit press and social content;
 Develop annual departmental budget, track spending, oversee purchases and payables;
 Seek out staff training opportunities and oversee professional development credits;
 Run college intern program, managing students seeking to gain experience and earn course
credit.

Who You’ll Work With:
The Deputy City Auditor will report directly to the City Auditor, an independently elected, citywide
official. The current Auditor’s goal is to be the most dynamic and engaged City Auditor in Syracuse
history. In his first two years in office, he’s issued 19 reports and audits, maintains an aggressive
schedule of public events and communications.
You’ll lead a staff team of one full-time and one part-time auditor, as well as administrative aide.

What You’ll Make:
Starting salary: $70,000

What You Should Bring to the Table:
Experience supervising staff in policy and administrative roles; experience with business or
government finance policy; Interest in housing policy, transparency and good government, and how
state and federal governments interact with localities.
