Grants Administration Division
The Grants Administration Division is seeking three part-time interns starting approximately April 1, 2026, upon completion of an interview process and personal service contract. This opportunity will include assisting staff with entering, tracking, and distributing grant applications. Additionally, the intern will assist with reviewing, evaluating, and negotiating grant applications and some administrative duties, as appropriate.
The internship will be required to be completed through remote working. The intern must provide a computer and sufficient internet access to be able to log-in and connect to TEA computer systems.
Work will include grant management support for various federal and state grant programs. Performs advanced administrative support and/or technical program assistance work. Work involves disseminating information, maintaining filing systems, and performing internal administrative support work. Performs administrative work in areas such as data entry, grant program/policy implementation, external customer service support, and development of responses to various inquiries about grant programs and funding. Completes research, conducts analysis, writes briefs, and makes recommendations to the various grant programs assigned. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Examples of Work Performed
- Evaluate grant applications from school systems.
- Provide information to the public by email, telephone, and/or virtual meeting.
- Assist in compiling and analyzing data, making calculations, and preparing reports.
- Perform basic data entry and retrieval.
- Research technical and policy issues.
- Perform related work as assigned.
General Qualifications
- The interns must have completed a minimum of one (1) full year of college or trade school credits to be eligible to apply.
- The intern must be enrolled in second year or higher classification of college or trade school, including graduate school, at the time of application or have graduated/completed college or trade school within the past two years and not started their career.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws related to education; public administration and management techniques; and program planning, evaluation, and implementation.
- Knowledge of the public school system in Texas.
- Ability to gather, assemble, correlate, and analyze facts; devise solutions to problems; prepare reports; develop and evaluate policies and procedures; and communicate effectively.
- Ability to be self-motivated, self-driven, and self-taught to learn new information.
- Skills in effective writing such as researching, composing, reviewing, and editing written communication to adhere to accepted styles and guidelines.
- Skills in effective customer service.
Interns are paid $16 per hour worked and will be paid every two weeks for 15-30 hours per week. Weekly schedules may vary with approval of the supervisor. The possibility for future internships exists for successful candidates.
