Spring Social Media Marketing Intern (Mission-Driven Fashion Startup)- SIP

Application Instructions:

This position is part of the SIP program. All 2018 spring internships will be posted on LionSHARE during the Fall 2017 semester on a rolling basis beginning in late September. (Search for the label "SIP" under the “Labels” field in LionShare to view all program positions.) You may apply to up to three (3) positions of interest in the SIP program. You must be in good academic and judicial standing with Columbia University to be eligible to participate in the program.

There are at least two required components to all SIP position applications and potentially more as requested by each employer. The following documents must be submitted through LionSHARE for each position of interest:

  1. Resume
  2. Transcript (This is your Fall 2017 course schedule which you should access by logging onto Student Services Online, clicking on “My Schedule” and copying and pasting your Fall 2017 course schedule into a Microsoft Word Document. The schedule should show your full name, your school, your Fall 2017 Courses, and your enrollment status.)
  3. Cover Letter (if required - click Apply Now and check for required documents)
  4. Other materials (ex: Writing Sample, etc. if required - click Apply Now and check for required documents)

SIP Internships run from January 22nd – April 13th. Submit your completed applications via LionSHARE by Sunday, October 29, 2017.

Position Summary

We are looking for a go-getter Social Media Marketing Intern with proven experience growing engaged communities on Instagram and Facebook. The ideal candidate is obsessed with social media, understands "influencer" culture, is interested in the fashion/retail industry, and is passionate about making a positive impact on the world.


Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Brand Manager, the Social Media Marketing Intern will engage in initiatives such as:

-Instagram Community Management: The intern will be tasked with accelerating the growth and engagement of our Instagram audience through an analytical strategy. The intern will be responsible for growing and maintaining relationships with our community of influencers, charity partners, and press contacts. The intern will leverage our analytics tool Iconosquare to create weekly reports about our platform growth and make recommendations for improved outreach strategies;

-Influencer Targeting: The intern will be responsible for identifying and leading initial outreach to social media influencers identified through our existing community and media partners. Next steps would include leading on-boarding of new partners to our AWE List and recommending collaboration opportunities;

-Content Strategy: The intern will be tasked with curating content for the AWE social media channels using Instagram Folders, crafting a content calendar using existing and repurposed assets, and thinking strategically about the AWE aesthetic based on post performance and competitor analysis. The intern will also be tasked with expanding AWE's marketing messaging to new platforms including Instagram Stories and Pinterest;

-Community Development: The intern will work with the Community Engagement Manager to strategize for the expansion of the AWE Community platform. This will include the creation of an AWE Facebook Community, the UX development of our Community Page, and the planning of a community launch event;

-Search Engine Marketing Optimization: Candidates with a curiosity for SEM will have an opportunity to learn about PPC ad optimization through the Google AdWords platform.


Preferred Qualifications

-Previous internship experience in marketing, social media, consumer insights/research, or advertising required;
-Demonstrable experience growing engaged communities on Instagram and/or Facebook;
-Currently enrolled as a 3rd, or 4th year undergraduate;
-Is professional, appropriate, and pleasant to work with and approaches all tasks with enthusiasm. Views each task as an opportunity to learn and grow;
-Has worked with charities, non-profits, and/or philanthropies and demonstrates passion for a particular social cause.
