Leadership Director Intern
Camp Jorn YMCA, located in Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin is currently seeking to hire a Leadership Director Intern for Summer 2026. This role would work closely with our CEO, Operations Director and our leadership team to support staff development and assist in planning and facilitating our leadership camp programs for teens. This position offers hands-on experience in youth development, group leadership, staff mentorship, program design, and outdoor education.
- Lead, plan, coordinate, and evaluate all leadership pathway programs in alignment with Camp Jorn and YMCA program standards.
- Create a developmentally appropriate and safe learning environment that promotes belonging, confidence, responsibility, and emotional resilience.
- Provide direct mentorship, coaching, and supervisory support to leadership counselors; model reflective practice and facilitate conflict resolution.

Design, adapt, and facilitate leadership curriculum rooted in YMCA character values, experiential education, social-emotional learning, and emerging leadership theory:
- TEVA – Intro to Leadership: Teamwork, education, values, and adventure
- LIT – Leader in Training: Identifying, developing, and applying personal leadership style
- CIT – Counselor in Training: Practicing youth leadership through supervised counselor experience.
- Lead and facilitate scheduled meetings with the Camp Jorn Lead Team—supporting team cohesion, shared problem-solving, communication alignment, and a strong staff culture.
- Lead risk-management practices and ensure all participants follow YMCA, licensing, ACA, and camp safety policies.
- Serve as a key member of the Lead Team (Directors), contributing to staff training, scheduling alignment, program cohesion, and seasonal strategy.
- Ensure effective stewardship and organization of program equipment, resources, curriculum materials, and activity spaces.
- Support camp traditions and community-building experiences including large group programs, evening activities, arrival/departure days, and special events.
- Build meaningful, developmental relationships with campers and staff; foster a culture of inclusion and belonging aligned with YMCA equity principles.
- Provide operational support across camp where needed (e.g., lifeguarding, food service, facilities support, logistics, etc.).
