Location: Anchorage Youth Court Office, 838 W. 4th Avenue
Hours and Salary: Full Time — 40 hrs./wk., salary TBD, PTO included
Reports to: Anchorage Youth Court Board of Directors
Job Summary: The Executive Director provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for Anchorage Youth Court (AYC), ensuring smooth administration, financial integrity, and program effectiveness.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in education, justice, social work, or a related field; 5+ years working effectively with middle and high school aged youth and families; supervisory and program administration experience; strong fundraising skills; proficiency in MS Office and database management; and an ability to pass a background investigation and provide a fingerprint check.
Responsibilities:
Administration
- Provide overall leadership and direction to ensure the efficient and effective operation of Anchorage Youth Court.
- Maintain organizational structure, programs, and activities in alignment with the mission and goals.
- Develop, implement, and update organizational policies and procedures as needed.
- Recruit, supervise, mentor, and evaluate staff to ensure high performance and professional growth.
- Collaborate with the Legal Advisor to guide and support youth participants in the AYC Bar Association.
- Oversee election processes for the AYC Bar Association and Board of Directors, including managing nominations, preparing and distributing ballots, and publishing results.
Finance
- Collaborate with the Board Treasurer to develop and manage the annual budget.
- Monitor expenses to ensure compliance with budgetary guidelines.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for all income and expenditures.
- Prepare and submit grant applications and required reports; ensure compliance with all government and grant requirements.
- Cultivate donor relationships, lead fundraising initiatives, and assist with planning and executing events.
- Support youth members in developing and implementing fundraising ideas.
- Provide regular financial updates to the Board of Directors.
Program
- Oversee the development and implementation of operational plans and procedures for court process and AYC Bar Association.
- Ensure adequate recruitment, training, and retention of youth volunteers.
- Advise AYC Bar Association officers in planning and executing annual activities.
- Make decisions regarding case acceptance, member conduct, and other program-related issues.
- Serve as liaison with the Alaska Court System, the Department of Juvenile Justice, and the Anchorage School District to coordinate program activities.
- Collaborate with staff, youth members, and community partners to design and deliver training and educational opportunities for AYC members and clients.
Public Relations
- Represent Anchorage Youth Court to the community, maintaining a positive and professional image.
- Build and sustain relationships with stakeholders, partner agencies, and community organizations.
- Act as primary liaison between the AYC Bar Association, Board of Directors, Alaska Court System, and the public.
- Maintain strong connections with state and national organizations to support program growth and visibility.
Board of Directors
- Work collaboratively and responsively with the Board of Directors.
- Provide regular updates and reports on organizational operations and progress.
- Timely prepare Board meeting agendas and materials, and coordinate committee reporting obligations.
- Assist the Board with governance responsibilities and special projects as needed.
