Academic Coordinator
Job Title: Academic Coordinator - Brooklyn Park Campus
Reports To: Executive Director, Academic Director, Principal
Status: Full-Time, Exempt
Start Date: Current school year - 2025-2026
Spero Academy is a nonprofit charter school that is devoted to educational programs for students with disabilities that foster a sense of respect, responsibility and community. We are looking for an Academic Coordinator who is eager to work with elementary students who are on the autistic spectrum or who may have other social, emotional and physical disabilities. A person who is able to work in a collaborative relationship with the Academic Director and the Academic Department team members, other administrative staff and our teachers to implement Spero’s curriculum to meet Minnesota Educational Standards while also prioritizing the needs of our students.
Collaborates with the Academic Director:
- Differentiating Curriculum:
- Adapt and differentiate curricula across subjects to meet the needs of students who are academically below grade level and/or to use in special education classrooms.
- Develop Units and Scope and Sequences for curricula across subjects to use in special education classrooms.
- Supports classroom/student learning and instruction:
- Conduct classroom or pull-out instruction for direct learning by students.
- Serving indirect IEP special education minutes.
- Assisting with accommodations and modifications in the classroom setting.
- Developing materials or systems to support student growth.
- Teacher Coaching:
- Collaborating with and coaching classroom teachers in the areas of curriculum
and instruction and assessments.
- Demonstrating effective intervention and teaching strategies for
classroom teachers.
- Reports to the Executive Director, Principal and Academic Director when the need
arises for interventions or corrective action plans related to teachers.
- Maintain records related to implementation and tracking of Student Academic Intervention plans.
- District and State Assessments, scheduling, administering and data analysis.
- Assists with planning and providing staff development.
- Accountability Committee member
- Attend all after hours school functions
- Additional tasks as assigned by supervisors
Special Education support:
- Qualified District representative for IEP meetings as assigned by the Special Education leadership team.
- Due process review as assigned by the Special Education Director
- Support for the structure and organization of classrooms to support student growth, especially in the area of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
- Maintains confidentiality in accordance with local, state and federal laws.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree. Master's degree or in a Master's degree program preferred.
- 5+ years experience in special education and/or elementary education with current teaching licensure from the State of Minnesota.
- Excellent oral, written, spoken communication skills with ability to interact well with staff, students, parents.
- Must be detail oriented, multi-task oriented and flexible.
- Must have a professional demeanor and appearance with a positive attitude.
- Self-motivated, proactive, accountable and resourceful in the completion of work assignments.
- Ability to plan and organize work successfully with limited supervision.
- Expertise with the following computer applications: Mac equipment, classroom applications and software, Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
- Ability to maintain status of “not disqualified” upon completion of criminal background.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion or move quickly to contain a student.
