Literacy Tutor – Middle School
After-School Literacy Program | San Jose, CA
Program Dates: November 10, 2025 – June 5, 2026

About the Role

The Bay Area Tutoring Association (BATA) is seeking enthusiastic and dependable Literacy Tutors to support middle school students in the Mt. Pleasant Elementary School District. Tutors will guide small groups of students (3:1 ratio) using the Phonics for Reading curriculum, helping them build stronger reading fluency, comprehension, and writing skills in an engaging, supportive environment.

Schedule

  • Monday–Thursday: 2:15 PM – 4:15 PM
  • Friday: 2:15 PM – 3:15 PM (weekly staff meeting via Zoom)

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate interactive literacy lessons focused on fluency, vocabulary, and writing development
  • Monitor, track, and document student progress to tailor instructional support
  • Collaborate with teachers and program staff to strengthen student outcomes
  • Attend all required training sessions and weekly staff meetings

Qualifications

  • Experience in tutoring, teaching, or literacy instruction preferred
  • Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Ability to create an inclusive, encouraging, and student-centered learning environment
  • Genuine interest in supporting students’ academic growth and confidence

Requirements

  • Completion of all required training sessions
  • Successful completion of onboarding, including background check and TB clearance
