Student Attorney

Student Attorney                            

$25.00 per hour                                                      

Part -Time (Flexible Schedule)

 

Under the direction of the Chief Deputy Attorney, the Student Attorney will work under attorney supervision to conduct legal research, prepare legal research memos and documents and represent Steele County where permitted. The Student Attorney will regularly appear on the record in uncontested and contested hearings and legal research and writing. 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct legal research and writing as assigned by attorneys. 
  • Draft motions, pleadings and various other legal documents.
  • Represent Steele County in court hearings as a Student Attorney under attorney supervision. 
  • Serves as a liaison between county attorneys and private attorneys, law enforcement agencies, the Public Defender’s Office, court administration, other agencies and the public.

 

Successful candidates for Attorney I will have:

  • Current enrollment in a School of Law in Minnesota approved by the American Bar Association or another School of Law approved by the American Bar Association who otherwise meets the qualifications of Student Practice Rules
  • Must have completed one year of law school (2 full time semesters)
  • Must be in good academic standing
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to pass a background check

 

This is an Owatonna, MN based position and is not eligible for remote work at this time.
