About Babel Institute

Babel Institute is an independent, nonpartisan public policy think tank dedicated to advancing practical policy solutions to the political, economic, and social challenges facing young people around the world. Our Regional Studies Program, which covers the United States, Latin America, Europe, and Africa, conducts research and analysis on key policy issues affecting youth in their respective regions.

Europe Studies at Babel Institute examines how major political and social shifts are shaping the lives and futures of young people across Europe. Areas of focus include the rise of populist movements, the war in Ukraine, migration from Africa to Europe, and the green energy transition, with particular attention to how these developments influence governance, civic participation, and economic opportunity for Europe’s youth.

Responsibilities

• Conduct quantitative and qualitative research and produce outputs – policy briefs, essays, and reports – on political, economic, and social developments in Europe.
• Support research publications and written outputs under the guidance of the Director of Europe Studies.
• Compile data, background materials, and regional analysis to support ongoing research and publications.
• Participate in meetings and contribute to collaborative research projects across the Studies Program

Qualifications

• Current undergraduate student enrolled at an accredited U.S. college or university.
• Background or demonstrated interest in European studies, international relations, political science, or public policy.
• Strong writing, research, and analytical skills.
• Self-motivated and able to meet deadlines independently.
• A demonstrated interest in European politics and governance, social policy, or education through coursework, research, or independent study.

All candidates must be eligible to work in the United States. Foreign nationals must have employment authorization, as Babel Institute does not sponsor visas for fellows.

Compensation

This is an unpaid fellowship. A stipend may be available to support special projects and field research undertaken during the fellowship.

• A resume or CV
• A brief statement of interest (150–300 words)
• Writing sample: One analytical or research-based writing sample of approximately 750–1,250 words (about 3–5 pages, double-spaced). Examples include academic papers, policy briefs, essays, or op-eds.
