Trainer - Career Pathways
POSITION SUMMARY
Hired's Career Pathways team develops and delivers short-term career skills training programs designed to help people find employment quickly in a career that provides family sustaining wages. Training is done virtually and in-person.
While the Trainer will have curriculum development and delivery as central responsibilities, a key focus for this position will be case management and centering the needs of participants with emphasis on relationship building, barrier alleviation, and career navigation services to achieve employment goals. This role works closely with collaborative community based organization partners and employer partners to inform learning goals and training activities, and to bridge participants to new employment opportunities. Strong MS Office skills are essential with the ability to teach those skills to adults using virtual and in-person tools. Experience developing and adapting curriculum is also important, but we will train a great candidate.
The Trainer in this position will work with the Home Energy training project and may move around to other projects as assigned. This position requires flexibility with projects, cross training, and the ability to travel to various offices and training sites, often to locations not easily accessed by public transportation. Knowledge of or experience with the home energy industry such as energy efficiency, weatherization, HVAC, or related fields is preferred.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Outreach & Recruitment
- Recruit class participants from appropriate sources for class sessions
- Take a leadership role in development of recruiting materials
- Ensure eligibility of referred participants through formal and informal inquiry and screening
- Complete enrollment paperwork per program requirements
- Conduct or assist in conducting formal enrollment sessions
- Conduct or assist in conducting group or one-on-one program information/overviews for potential clients
Program and Curriculum Development
- Responsible for researching and developing new curricula to meet program goals.” Curriculum refers to a complete body of instructional materials, including:
- Detailed daily lesson plans including daily learning goals, key activities, handouts and evaluation components
- Ensure core concepts build effectively from one lesson to another within the curriculum
- Articulated methods of evaluation within & between lessons – as well the end of the class.
- Ensure that instruction, materials and evaluation address the needs of multiple learning styles, cultures and non-formal education
- Accountable for ensuring compliance with copyright law
- Active participant in grant writing and proposals to fund new and ongoing training initiatives.
- Assist in training in new trainers or staff, provide specific components of new staff training as directed by manager, mentor and advise trainers, provide feedback to the manager on staff progress
- Work independently and with other agency staff to develop new programming
Assessment
- Conduct appropriate classroom assessments needed for programming
- Conduct ongoing informal assessments of student progress during and at the end of teaching segments to ensure accurate tracking of student learning, strengths and areas for growth
- Assess and evaluate participant’s physical, social, vocational, educational and employment situation to determine client strengths and identify barriers
- Administer appropriate assessment and screening tools per program requirements or guidelines
Delivery of Training
- Adapt curriculum and/or daily lesson plans to meet the needs of program participants and delivering materials in a meaningful way
- Demonstrate advanced skills in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, including older versions of those programs
- Maintain learning progress to ensure all topics are covered within the class timeframe.
- Provides individualized, small group and large group instruction
- Adapts teaching style/techniques to accommodate individual learning needs or situations.
- Assists participants to define and achieve appropriate occupational goals
- Monitor and report on client progress
- Maintain client confidentiality, adhere to Federal Data Privacy laws
- Engage appropriate community resources to improve programming and outcomes
- Work with other trainers within Hired to improve training curricula, delivery and assessment methods to improve training programming at Hired.
- Responsible for peer review of instruction and leadership among training team in core areas of expertise
- Work effectively with other programs and training staff to improve services across programs
Manage Classroom Environment
- Maintains a safe, positive, rigorous classroom learning environment
- Creates an environment of respect and rapport with and between participants
- Establishes a culture for learning
- Manages classroom procedures (including attendance/punctuality) and student behavior
- Maintain compliance with program contract requirements and program policies
- Develop appropriate room lay-out and décor to create an appropriate learning environment and reinforce key educational concepts
Data Management/Reporting
- Utilize required databases to enter and track participants through the program
- Perform computerized data entry per program requirements inclusive of but not exclusive of (funder) WF1 tracking and case noting, (internal) ICIS data entry (participant) data entry, (financial) Financial Edge and program specific reports
- Takes leadership role in developing reports to support program management and evaluation; and facilitates case file reconciliation in a timely manner
- Identify best practices in reporting and sharing training outcomes. Make recommendations to management for changes/improvements
MINNMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Demonstrated understanding of theory and practice of adult training/education and the application of those principles in service to people from oppressed & excluded communities; teaching certification and/or licensure preferred.
- Demonstrated experience delivering training in both virtual and in-person settings using methods that are culturally responsive and adaptive to different learning styles/modalities.
- Skill in written and oral communication
