HUMAN RESOURCES INTERN
Under general supervision, the 2026 Spring internship will offer an experience in learning how human resources activities support an organization that provides exceptional public service. The responsibilities of this role will focus on providing administrative support for the County’s recruiting process, new employee onboarding and related projects.
Essential Duties
- Support recruitment processes across various departments and job classifications, including posting job opportunities and advertisements.
- Update and maintain candidate and new hire records in applicant tracking and onboarding systems.
- Assist with filing and organizing employee data and records in personnel files, medical files, online benefit enrollment platform, and training database.
- Schedule pre-employment screenings and complete background and driving record checks.
- Collect, compile, and analyze data related to the effectiveness and quality of recruitment, onboarding and offboarding processes.
- Assist with general office work such as data entry, answering employee questions, phones, records retention, benefit administration, payroll activities, and verifications of employment.
- Provide general administrative support and back-up to other HR team members as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
- Administrative and functional supervision is received from the Human Resources Director.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
- No functional and administrative supervision is exercised.
Qualifications
- Current or recent enrollment in a graduate or undergraduate degree program with an interest in Human Resources Management or related field (transcripts may be requested).
- Must have a valid Iowa Driver’s License and be insurable under county guidelines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and internet applications.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision and be a self-starter; assume ownership in setting goals, organizing work, and completing assigned tasks.
- Ability to prioritize duties to meet required timelines.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
- Ability to gather and analyze information skillfully and determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or county policies.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with county employees of all levels, outside agencies, and the general public in a personable and professional manner in all forms of communication.

Work Schedule:
Flexible hours between 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
