WLW-ECOS Research Fellowship

The WLW-ECOS Research Fellowship provides College of Science undergraduate students with hands-on research experience working directly with ECOS-affiliated faculty on solution-oriented environmental research projects. These paid fellowships enable students to develop essential research skills while contributing to meaningful environmental science. 

Compensation: $22 per hour (maximum $7,500 per semester, $15,000 total per student) 

Renewable: Yes, for a second semester with faculty research mentor recommendation 

Choosing Lab Placement: Participating ECOS-affiliated faculty within the College of Science and their available research opportunities are located on either the Boca or Davie Campus. To choose your preferred faculty placement, please review the participating ECOS-affiliated College of Science faculty by visiting the following webpage and list your top five faculty members with whom you would like to work in your cover letter: https://www.fau.edu/ecos/affiliate-members/ 

Core Responsibilities: Responsibilities are dependent upon the lab you are placed in. 

Conditions of eligibility for the WLW-ECOS Research Fellowship program: 

  • Must be in good academic standing 
  • Must be a full-time (minimum 12 credit hours) degree-seeking College of Science undergraduate student (you can register for up to 3 DIR credits to help meet this minimum)
  • Minimum GPA: 3.0 
  • Must be solution-oriented environmental research 
  • Must be able to work up to 20 hours per week (or more with proper authorization)
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or have provided the FAU Career Center with a signed document from your guardian allowing participation as a research fellow
  • Must be available to participate in the research fellowship from January 2026 to May 2026 
  • Non-COS students are ineligible

  • Resume 
  • A cover letter identifying up to 5 ECOS-affiliated faculty within the College of Science with whom you would like to work (https://www.fau.edu/ecos/affiliate-members/
  • FAU transcript (unofficial) 
  • An essay that addresses the following three topics (max 1500 words total): 
    • The impact you would like to make in your career (max 500 words) 
    • An obstacle and how you overcame it (max 500 words) 
    • Your completed environmental science coursework and relevant volunteer, research, and/or work experience (max 500 words) 

Please note: Students selected for this fellowship may register their research for credit through appropriate College courses with Florida Atlantic University.
