As our Media Production Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the public can see, hear, and engage with local government. You will oversee the livestreaming and recording of Tompkins County Legislature meetings using professional-grade audio-visual technology, manage the County’s YouTube channel, and support digital access to public information across platforms.
Beyond public meetings, you will collaborate with County departments to produce high-quality video, photography, and digital media that tell the story of the programs and services that support our community. Key Job Duties
- Oversee the recording and live-streaming of Tompkins County Legislature meetings, including broadcasts via Zoom, YouTube, and Spectrum Cable Access
- Ensure the proper operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of audio-visual systems in Legislature Chambers and other County facilities
- Manage and maintain the County’s YouTube channel, including livestreams, archived content, and posting links
- Record, edit, and publish video and digital media content in collaboration with the Communications Director and County departments
- Coordinate pre-production, production, and post-production activities for media projects
- Provide technical support and guidance to departments for videoconferencing tools (e.g., Zoom) and media production equipment
- Assist with photography, videography, live event coverage, and graphic or digital media projects
- Support County website updates and posting of approved content to social media platforms
- Maintain and monitor an inventory of communications and media production equipment
- Attend meetings and collaborate closely with communications staff and County leadership
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet one of the following:
- Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four-year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in communications, television-radio, media production, digital media, information technology, or a closely related field; OR
- Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two-year college or university with an Associate’s degree and two (2) years of full-time paid (or equivalent part-time) experience in media production, audio-visual services, television-radio, information technology, or digital media; OR
- Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four (4) years of full-time paid (or equivalent part-time) experience in media production, audio-visual services, television-radio, information technology, or digital media
Special Requirement:
A valid New York State driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
Salary
Confidential grade 63- Hire rate 68,723 and Work Rate after 9 months $72342 based on 40hrs a week.
