Fish Hatchery Technician
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is hiring seasonal staff for fish hatcheries. They are offering six (6) three-month positions and one (1) five-month position. These roles involve assisting with fish culture duties (such as feeding and monitoring fish), maintaining hatchery facilities (including repairs and cleaning), and groundskeeping. Ideal candidates will have an interest in wildlife or environmental science, be physically able to perform outdoor work, and be willing to learn about fish hatchery operations. The positions provide hands-on experience in wildlife management and fisheries, making them a great opportunity for those interested in conservation and outdoor work.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.
- Duties will include tank cleaning, egg and juvenile fish care, feeding, sample counts, feed calculations, fish inventories, aquaculture equipment maintenance, fish distribution and stocking, fish spawning, and a variety of other fish culture activities.
- Duties will also include work to maintain the facility grounds, buildings, and equipment not directly tied to aquaculture.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:
Preference may be given to those who are pursuing a college degree or already have a college degree in fish and wildlife management, science, biology, or natural resource management.

**Agency requires that the successful applicant possess a valid driver's license.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Grounds care (mowing & trimming), small engine maintenance and operation, operating 4WD vehicles, painting, and the use of various hand and power tools.

Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This position requires working outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions, using various tools and equipment, and some occasional lifting may be required.
NOTES:
- FLSA: Non-exempt
- Six positions that run from May 16, 2026 to August 15, 2026. Work locations will be at the Auburn, Boulder, Clark’s Fork, Daniel, Dubois, and Story Fish Hatcheries.
- One position that runs from April 1, 2026 to August 31, 2026. Work location will be at the Speas Fish Hatchery.
- For all locations except Story, housing is provided at no cost to the employee.
- Applicants should be pursuing a career in fisheries, wildlife, or resource management.
- No previous fish culture experience is required.
