SSS Peer Mentor
Position Description:
SSS Peer Mentors provide individualized and group support to first-year TRIO students, focusing on academic success, career development, financial literacy, engagement, and practices such as internships, research, and study abroad. Mentors help students explore majors, build resumes, set professional goals. Responsibilities include facilitating meetings, guiding students through campus resources (SOLAR, Navigate, Handshake, Canvas), creating presentations and videos, and serving as a role model. Mentors also participate in orientation programs, First-Year Seminar, and Career Development courses, while developing their own leadership and professional skills through training and supervision.
Mandatory Training Dates:
January 26–27, 2025 (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM both days)
Employment Duration: Spring 2026 term with option to continue into the 2026-27 academic year.
Required Qualifications:
Applicants must be currently enrolled as a UW-Parkside undergraduate student for the Spring 2026 term and have completed at least one full year at UW-Parkside. Candidates must hold sophomore standing or higher (30+ credits) for the 2025–26 academic year and maintain good academic standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
Preferred Qualifications:
Work Study students preferred. Experience in at least one of the following areas: Research and Creative Activity, ePortfolio development, Internships, Volunteerism/Community Engagement, Study Abroad, Leadership, Financial Literacy, Campus Employment as a High Impact Practice (HIP), Graduate School, or Professional Affiliations. Completion of UWP 293 Career Development Course is preferred.
