Volunteer Computer Science Mentor

About Kinetic Minds

Kinetic Minds helps kids in grades 3–5 build confidence, curiosity, and creative problem-solving through Scratch coding, circuits, and hands-on STEM. Our workshops are playful, supportive, and rooted in the belief that kids thrive when they feel encouraged and seen.

About the Volunteer Mentor Role

We’re looking for Volunteer Mentors who want to make a real impact. As a mentor, you’ll support the Lead Instructor, guide young coders as they work through Scratch projects, and help create a fun, confidence-building environment. This is a fantastic opportunity for CS students or recent grads looking for real mentoring experience, communication practice, and service hours.

The role starts with 1–2 workshops per month, with the opportunity to take on more sessions and responsibilities as programs expand and new offerings launch.

What You’ll Do

  • Mentor students during Scratch-based creative coding workshops
  • Help kids debug, understand concepts, and express creative ideas
  • Encourage curiosity, resilience, and open-ended exploration
  • Support the Lead Instructor to maintain a positive, smooth classroom flow
  • Assist with workshop setup and clean-up

Who You Are

  • Interested in computer science, technology, or STEM education
  • Friendly, patient, and comfortable working with kids
  • Able to explain simple concepts in kid-friendly language
  • Responsible and punctual
  • No teaching experience required; Scratch familiarity is a plus

Time Commitment

  • 1–2 workshops per month
  • Each workshop is 1–1.5 hours
  • Flexible — pick the dates that work for you
  • More volunteer opportunities available as programs grow
